Weight loss takes dedication, determination and a lot of hard work. The same goes for those that have weight loss surgery because the surgery is not a miracle fix. There are guidelines and restrictions that must be followed for the surgery to be successful. A person needs to be mental ready to take the journey down the path to successful weight reduction.
Obesity can range any where from slightly obese to extremely obese. The different ranges help determine which weight loss surgery is right for you. You are probably thinking; are there really different types of weight loss surgery. Well the answer is absolutely. Weight loss surgery is similar to the different ranges of obesity. The surgery can range from an extremely insidious procedure to a straightforward outpatient procedure.
The most invasive type of weight loss surgery is the gastric bypass. The gastric bypass is considered major surgery which can carry major risks as can any major surgery. Gastric bypass entails taking the small intestine and bypassing a big portion of the stomach. The stomach then becomes the size of a half-dollar with the majority of the food passing directly through the intestine. The object of the surgery is to reduce the size of the stomach and have waste pass directly through the body without having a chance to sit and turn to fat.
An easier less encompassing surgery is the gastric lap band. A gastric lap band is an elastic band placed on the stomach. The band is tightened to make the stomach smaller. This surgery is usually done as out patient surgery and does not carry as much risk as the gastric bypass surgery. The lap band is only successful if the individual is committed to following the rules. The band can easily expand allowing the stomach to grow back to its original size. This surgery is designed for the less obese person but can be as effective as the gastric bypass is for the morbidly obese individual.
Surgery is a scary option but you need to choose whether you want to take the risk of having surgery or stay obese and fight the health problems and possible death. The most logical would be to have the weight loss surgery. There are doctors that specialize in weight loss surgery and can guide you to the best option for you.
Contrary to belief, weight loss surgery is not going to have instant results. You are going to have to be vigilant and fight overeating and eating the wrong things. Not to mention you will need to be doing some type of exercise. Healthy living is going to be the key factor in being successful in losing all the excess weight and keeping it off. Most things in life are not immediate and always require some effort on the person’s part.
